On 9th May we are celebrating all the beautiful, strong and resilient mothers in our lives. Take a look at these experiences in and around Brisbane that could help you celebrate the day in style and make mum feel extra special!
Running has never looked so pink! This Mother’s Day, bring awareness to women fighting breast cancer and join in on a fun run. Starting at Flowstate in South Bank, runners will start on the 5km course through the city from 8am. Participation is $57.45 per adult and you need to register online beforehand to manage arrival times, so there is no overcrowding and the event remains COVID-safe, and all proceeds go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Dressing in pink is optional, but feel free to join in the trend, as most other attendees will be dressed in hot pink!
Between 2pm and 4pm, down at the stunning waterfront location of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron at Manly, mums will get the opportunity to enjoy a decadent afternoon tea and a glass of bubbles while The Workshop Hubs professional teachers guide you through how to create your own aromatherapy gemstone bracelet or a botanical hair comb. On the menu are fine sandwiches, bagels, quiches, macarons, scones & much more. Adult tickets are $99, children under 18 are $75.
Making for an extremely unique gift for mum, join gifted Florist, Helena Rose, in creating a beautiful flower crown for or with your mother. All workshops take two hours and all materials you need to make a flower crown are provided. Participants will learn how to condition your flowers, arrange them in a neat fashion and shape them in your desired way. These flower crown workshops are the perfect opportunity to show mum the appreciation she deserves or simply to spend some quality time with mum. As a bonus, a glass of bubbles and grazing platters are also included! No previous experience is necessary and you can purchase tickets from $189 for a Mum and Daughter package (or Mum + friend) for any date you desire.
Mother’s Day also is a great opportunity to celebrate local makers & creatives, many of them mums themselves. On Saturday May 8th, from 10am -3pm, plenty of handmade artisan Mother’s Day gifts will be on display, including ceramics, textiles, woodwork, metal works, jewellery, flower arrangements, homewares and much more! You can also gift-wrap any item you purchase complimentary. In addition to the market, there will also be a handful of live demonstrations, such as an Ikebana demonstration, bringing the mesmerizing art of Japanese flower arrangement to you. You can catch the demo at 10.30am. Entry to the artisian – Queensland’s home of craft and design is free and there is free parking at the markets, making it super accessible for everyone.
Picture this: you are at a vineyard near Lamington National Park, enjoying delectable picnic treats, surrounded by alpacas and sipping delicious wine from the vineyard you are on. Sounds pretty perfect right? The O’Reilly’s Canungara Valley Vineyards’ Mother’s Day baskets are available on either the 8th or 9th of May for two people and a bottle of O’Reilly’s Lona Gold sparkling wine and chocolates are included as well. You will be able to set up anywhere on the vineyard under their silky Oak trees and live music is also on offer creekside from 11am to 2.30pm. If you feel like being seated you can always relax on the verandah of the 163 year old historic homestead ‘Killowen‘ instead. Make sure to bring your own picnic blanket, camping chairs and marquee. The neighbouring Mountview Alpaca farm also offers alpaca walks, which can be pre-booked and make for a fun post-picnic activity. All picnic baskets are $120 and the team at O’Reilly’s Canungara Valley Vineyard can cater to different dietary needs.
Hosted at Sanctuary Cove from 8.45-10.15am on May 8th , you are invited to celebrate the beauty of Mother’s Day with your favourite mother, sister, daughter or female friend. Aimed at increasing connection, relaxation and bonding time, the morning will begin with a gentle Yin Yoga class and continue with a sound healing ceremony, allowing you to drift away and fully relax into the experience. The sound healing ceremony is also supposed to improve your sleep, ease any anxiety and benefit overall bodily & mental wellbeing. At $45 for two participants, this is a great affordable and connective experience to share with mum.
