Vibrant history of QPAC

The Queensland Performing Arts Centre is the centrepiece of storytelling and has been operating since 1985. Brisbane’s cultural hub has evolved over the years from the city’s first entertainment venue called Croft’s Amphitheatre, which opened in 1847. South Brisbane was home to the well-known theatre, Cremorne. It was owned by John McCallum’s father, a notable Australian actor. The theatre has a rich history and while the original building turned to ash in 1954, the name still lives on as the Cremorne Theatre, one of the venues within QPAC.
