Kids activities in Brisbane

We know how important family time is, especially when exploring a new city together or visiting friends & family. While we already have PLENTY of amazing kid’s activities here at the hotel (check them out here) there also are a multitude of events and activities in Brisbane, specifically tailored to children. We have compiled some of our favourites below:

Ride at Kids’ Traffic Parks

If you’ve never heard of kid’s traffic parks before, let us tell you what you’re missing! All across Brisbane, at multiple parks and recreational centers, there are mini versions of streets complete with street signs, fuel stations and obstacles. Kids can take their scooters, bikes or toy bikes to these parks and have fun learning the rules of traffic in a playful way. Whether it is ‘fueling up your scooter’, racing with friends or simply spending some time outside, we love kid’s traffic parks, as they entertain your children while you can relax. . One of the best is located out in the bay area at Plantation Place Park , 5 Plantation Pl Wellington Point. Other parks include Kalinga Park at Clayfield, Melrose Park at Wooloowin or Grande Park at Springfield. Cost: Free

Explore & discover new worlds at Undersea Putt & Play

Imagine playing putt-putt mini golf, except everything makes you feel like you are underwater: the colours, the sounds, the atmosphere! This Brisbane mini golf course has been specifically designed for families and don’t be surprised if you’ll make friends with a shark, turtle, pirate or whale while playing! Featuring 18 holes of varying levels of difficulty, each hole presents a new ‘deep sea’ challenge. Best of all, the venue also boasts a ‘Glow in the Dark’ room, to which you can only get if you are brave enough to step through the jaws of a pre-historic ocean creature (psst: if you wear white, you will also glow in the dark). You can also satisfy any after-putt-putt café/bar cravings at the nearby arcade with 30 games and some great food and drink options by the beach in Redcliffe. . Cost: $15/adult, $10/child.

Dive into Brisbane’s very own Winter Wonderland!

Situated at the Northshore Riverfront Event Site near Hamilton on Brisbane’s northside, you can find a white, dreamy, winter-wonderland from 3 June – 29 August. This magical space is a must-visit for the whole family. Enjoy activities such as ice-skating, snow showers, a pop-up kitchen & bar and of course, the magical igloo-village. The Winter Village is free to enter and open 7 days/week.

See if you can spot a shooting star!

The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium is the perfect space for kids to dream big. Located at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mount Coot-tha,. kids can have a look through a telescope, see real fragments of asteroids and spacecraft models and watch informative short feature shows. Arguably, playful

learning is the most successful when trying to incite excitement in your kids about a new topic. Oh and you can’t miss the large cosmic skydome, the 12.5 meter-diameter projection dome when visiting the planetarium, it’s simply breathtaking! Cost: Adults: $10, Children: $6

Hang out with other kids and learn new skills!

Every Thursday (20th May-24th June), from 9am, Kids Collective is putting on free, fun activities for children aged up to 5 years right here at South Bank! Kids Collective was developed to entertain, educate and develop your children’s learning, from musical play to engaging craft workshops, you can find just about any cool kid’s activity at the Collective. Workshops are split into 30-45 minute sessions, taking place at 9am, 10am, 11am and 12pm. Upcoming workshops include: Interactive Play (24 June), Storytelling (1 July) and Bubs & Toddler Yoga (8 July). Cost: Free

Go for a dip at the South Bank Lagoon

Featuring pristine powder, white sandy beaches, sparkling blue water and its own rainforest, the Streets Beach, located in the South Bank Parklands (and only a 5 minute walk from the hotel), is the best beach in Brisbane! The lagoon is patrolled by lifeguards year-round and also has many water play activities for kids on offer. Cost: Free

Cuddle a Koala!

The world’s first and largest koala sanctuary is luckily located only about 30 minutes’ drive from sunny Brisbane, making it a perfect day trip for your little ones. At the sanctuary, you can meet more than 130 koalas, hand-feed kangaroos and birds and get up close and personal with more than 70 species of Australia’s unique native wildlife. Cost: Adults: $42, Children: $25

Spark your kid’s quest for knowledge

Sparklab at the Queensland Museum is an interactive, science, technology, engineering and maths space, aimed at children aged 6-13 years. Putting the fun back into science, children can discover over 40 interactive exhibits across three fun-filled zones. At the lab, kids can, quite literally, see giant sparks of electricity generating in a glass globe, observe magnetic liquid and witness live scientific experiments. If these aren’t enough mind-blowing activities for you, you can also enter Science on a Sphere, from which you can watch clouds move across the world in real time, spot how a cyclone starts to form and circle the sun. Sparklab is open daily from 9.40am-4pm. Cost: Adults: $15.50, Children: $12.50
